While staying with us at Lord Wakefield Hotel, we want you to not only visit restaurants in Wakefield, but restaurants throughout the Greater Boston area. One of the most interesting Salem, MA, restaurants is called Great Escape Restaurant. Great Escape Restaurant was America’s oldest active jail from its opening in 1813 until its closure 1991. Great Escape Restaurant was reopened in September 20, 2010, as a jail-themed dining hotspot that provides rich history of the area as well as spectacular fine dining.

When you visit Great Escape Restaurant, you will see old cell doors, cell bars, original granite floors, and brick walls. Although the description sounds quite dreary, the restaurant is full of life with a bar, daily specials, food menus made from old prison schedules, and plenty of unique decorative items. The Great Escape Restaurant Dinner Menu features a wide range of entree items including salads, soup of the day, seafood, steak, pork, veal, pasta, and chicken. The dinner specials for today, Wednesday, January 18, 2012, include the soups Creamy Seafood Chowder and Beef Stew, appetizer Veal Involtini, seafood special Wild Alaskan Salmon, entrée special Grilled NY Sirloin topped with jumbo shrimp, and desserts Ricotta Cheesecake, Blood Orange Mascarpone Mousse, Chocolate Mousse, Cannoli, and Créme Brûlée. If you cannot make it tonight, check back on their Facebook page to see daily specials.

Great Escape Restaurant is located at 50 Saint Peter Street, Salem, MA 01970. The restaurant in Salem, MA, is open Monday through Thursday from 11am to 10pm, Friday and Saturday from 11am to 11pm, and Sunday from 12pm to 10pm. They now offer free valet parking!
